A Sexually
Transmitted Disease (STD) - sometimes referred
to as a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) -
is a serious illness that is spread during
close sexual activity. STDs are sometimes
painful and can cause a lot of damage to your
body.
Sometimes,
STDs don't give you any warning signs or
symptoms. Other times you may have some
symptoms, but they go away even though you are
still infected. Many STDs can be cured but
some cannot. However, all STDs need to receive
treatment.

To Do About It

If you think
that you could have been exposed to an STD,
you need to get it checked out right away.
STDs don't go away on their own. Some people
may feel embarrassed about getting treatment
for an STD. Don't let embarrassment rob you
of your health. Many STD treatments amount
to getting a simple antibiotic.
